This is a true love story about a boy growing up in Eastern North Carolina. It is woven with East Carolina history, but more precisely, it is an autobiography. |
Harvey Brothers, Sr. retired and enjoying hunting. "Dad retired from farming. He was still water skiing at seventy and hunted birds with me at eighty-six," said Harvey, Jr.
One cold and snowing Sunday we went to church before going on a duck hunt. My wife Mildred said, "I can't believe you just came from church, now you're about to make criminals out of your boys!" (Whenever the boys were bad, they were my boys, when they were good, they were her boys.) I said that church and duck hunting have nothing in common; God never made any game laws. She said, "You are wrong. God would not let the Israelites hunt quail on Sunday." She had me there.
